What is Because of WoW?
Back in March 2013, my husband Arcayne turned 40 – a milestone that deserved some celebrating. I proposed an idea to invite our friends to join us in Las Vegas, one of our favorite places. As I was going through the list of people we were closest to, the list was ALL people who played WoW with us in some form – guild members, podcast friends, RL friends who played. It was amazing to me… that this game had formed some of the most significant friendships in our lives.
I realized that we were not alone. There are countless others who have similar stories. We group together. We form guilds. We create our own memes. And we all share the same common ground – no matter who we are, or where we come from, WoW brought us together. I wanted to create a place where we could share these stories, to inspire others, and to know that we’re part of a bigger community outside our own circles.
We all share connections, community and friendships… Because of WoW.
BecauseofWoW.com is a website made up of your stories, photos, and experiences in meeting each other outside of WoW. BlizzCon 2013 was our coming-out party, and it was amazing. This is now YOUR scrapbook to share your epic stories of how WoW brought you together with people, what it means to you, and what it has done to shape your life.
How does the site work?
Click the button for Submit a Story, and you can upload a photo, write a story about your experience, and share it with the community. (Posts submitted through the site are moderated!)
We’re linked in to social media as much as you are. Twitter is a fantastic way to share your stories and photos. Tweet a photo, story, or anything you want with the hashtag #BecauseofWoW, and your tweet will be automatically imported into the site.
There are many folks I would like to thank for their help in making this project happen: my husband Arcayne for being my rock through the many challenges tossed my direction; Dairies for laying the ground work technically to create the blueprint for my lofty idea; Pat Krane and Andy Hannon for their support and feedback in all development phases; Rem for believing in the idea and cheerleading every step of the way; Shane Faherty for facilitating the design work on the Because of WoW logo, and to my developer and programmer Hatraz, whose selfless hard work and tireless commitment made this entire project a reality. I could not have done this with you all.
And finally, to the Warcraft community: I thank you. Because of WoW is for you, and it will thrive with you. I cannot wait to see where your experiences take us.
